Welcome
to my “About” page! I am grateful that you are taking time to learn a bit more about me. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my motivations for creating Nurtured Roots.
I am a board certified pediatrician specialized in hospital medicine and integrative medicine with additional training in functional medicine and culinary medicine. I also have the opportunity to teach medical students and residents both in the classroom and at the bedside; something I really enjoy.
I founded Nurtured Roots to be a place to find reliable and trust-worthy information on health topics you care about with the goal of fostering greater health literacy. I strongly believe that having a better understanding of the how and why of health, disease and the healthcare system will empower you to be able to make more informed decisions regarding your health, and the health of your children and family. This ultimately translates into an ability to prevent illness, make healthier lifestyle choices and to collaborate effectively with your healthcare providers.
You will see in the Blog section there are a few different categories that I will be focusing on: food and nutrition, mental health and wellbeing, and digital citizenship. I invite you to check each of the pages out to learn more about what these categories will include. I also would love to hear from you about what topics are most important to you or the questions you are hoping to find answers to.
Home is where the heart is…
The answer to the question, “where are you from?” has never been a straight forward one….my life began in southern India, followed by several years in England and Canada before landing in the Pacific Northwest where I spent most of my formative early adult years. Then it was a stint in upstate NY before landing in Minnesota. I experienced most of these moves with my parents and younger brother and now enjoy life with my husband and two little girls.
I love what I do professionally but also have a dominant creative side and love to cook (and eat), dance, write, create art and travel in my spare time.
I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stay a while and explore!
